If your Changi connection falls after midnight on 22 September, do not assume the Skytrain will be running. The airport’s normal T1–T2–T3 Skytrain hours are 5:00am to 2:00am, but for this overnight work window the service will stop at midnight and resume at 5:00am.
That does not mean passengers are stranded. Changi says the public-side link bridges between Terminals 1, 2 and 3 remain the main alternative, while airside passengers can use inter-terminal travellators. A special complimentary shuttle will also run between T2 and T3 in transit from midnight to 2:00am, and the existing overnight T4 loop bus continues to connect T2, T3, T1/Jewel and T4 in the public area.
01 · What exactly changes on 22 September
Changi’s complimentary Skytrain normally links Terminals 1, 2 and 3 in both public and transit areas from 5:00am until 2:00am. The airport’s current transfer page says that, to upgrade the passenger experience, services between those three terminals will close earlier on 22 September 2026, from midnight until 5:00am.
In practical terms, the unusual part is the midnight-to-2:00am period. On an ordinary night, the Skytrain would still be running during those two hours. For this one-night work window it will not be available, so passengers arriving late, departing very early or connecting overnight should plan on walking or using the relevant shuttle option instead.
02 · If you are in the public area
Passengers who have cleared immigration, are checking in for a flight, or are otherwise on the public/landside side of the airport can move between T1, T2 and T3 using the link bridges. Changi’s current instructions specify the Mezzanine Level link bridge between T2 and T3, and the link bridge at Jewel Level 3 for T1 connections with T2 or T3.
Those walking routes are the clearest fallback during the Skytrain closure. The airport’s FAQ says the walking routes between T1, T2 and T3 are available 24/7 when the Skytrain is not operating. Travellers with mobility needs, heavy luggage or very tight timing should allow more buffer than they normally would for a Skytrain hop and follow the live airport signage on the night.
03 · If you are in the transit area
Airside passengers have a different set of instructions. Changi says a complimentary shuttle bus between T2 and T3 only will operate from 12:00am to 2:00am. The listed pick-up and drop-off points are T2 Arrival Immigration Hall F and T3 Arrival Immigration Hall A.
For other inter-terminal movements in the transit area, Changi directs passengers to the inter-terminal travellators and onsite signs. The airport specifically notes the travellator connection between T1 and T3 throughout the departure-transit areas. Because gate assignments can change, use the airport screens and your airline’s current boarding information rather than treating any static transfer plan as a gate guarantee.
04 · What about Terminal 4?
Terminal 4 is not part of the T1–T2–T3 Skytrain system, so its bus connection remains important regardless of the one-night Skytrain work. In the public area, Changi’s complimentary midnight loop runs from 12:00am to 6:00am on the route T2/MRT → T3/MRT → T1/Jewel → T4.
The current airport timetable lists a 19-minute frequency for that overnight public loop. Changi also says public-area shuttle trips between terminals take about 10 minutes, although the full loop and waiting time can make the end-to-end journey longer. Do not build a connection around the headline ride time alone: include time to reach the bus stop, wait for the next vehicle and walk onward to check-in, security or your gate.
If you are transferring to T4 within the transit area, Changi says your itinerary must be through-checked to your final destination. Follow the airline and airport transfer instructions for that journey rather than exiting immigration simply to chase a landside bus.
05 · Jewel and the walking links
Jewel sits in the public area between T2 and T3 and is directly connected to the T1 Arrival Hall. From T2 and T3, Changi estimates the walk to Jewel at around five to 10 minutes via the link bridges. That geography is useful during the overnight Skytrain closure because the Jewel link also forms part of the landside walking route between T1 and the other terminals.
Transit passengers should remember that Jewel is not airside. Changi states that a transit passenger needs to clear arrival immigration to enter Singapore and visit Jewel. That is a separate immigration decision from simply making an airside terminal transfer, so do not route yourself through Jewel unless your entry eligibility and connection time genuinely allow it.
06 · Who should pay most attention
The change matters most to travellers who would normally use the Skytrain between T1, T2 and T3 between midnight and 2:00am, plus anyone whose overnight connection leaves little margin for extra walking. That includes late-arriving passengers changing terminals, travellers positioning for very early departures, and anyone meeting a transfer partner or transport pickup in a different terminal.
If your terminal movement is after 2:00am, the Skytrain would normally be closed anyway; the key difference on 22 September is that the overnight closure starts two hours earlier. If your journey is outside the midnight-to-5:00am work window, the special notice does not announce a wider daytime shutdown.
07 · How much extra time should you allow?
Changi does not publish one universal “add X minutes” figure for this work window, and we are not inventing one. Transfer time depends on where you start, which gate or hall you need, whether you are landside or airside, your walking speed and whether a shuttle is immediately available.
A sensible approach is to avoid planning the transfer to the minute. Check your arrival and departure terminals before travelling, follow the transfer signs when you land, and treat the airport’s published walking and shuttle options as the fallback rather than waiting at a closed Skytrain platform. If your connection is unusually tight, confirm the process with your airline because it controls the ticketed connection and can advise on through-checking, bags and gate-specific requirements.
08 · Overnight transfer checklist
Before leaving for the airport: check both flight terminals, save your airline booking details, and note whether your bags are checked through. If you are connecting airside, do not assume you can simply enter the public area and return without considering immigration and security requirements.
At Changi: follow the live terminal signs, screens and staff directions. Public-area passengers can use the link bridges between T1, T2 and T3; transit passengers can use travellators, with the temporary T2–T3 transit shuttle available from midnight to 2:00am. T4 users should follow the dedicated shuttle-bus arrangements.
If plans change: recheck the official Changi transfer page. Airport engineering windows can be adjusted, and flight terminals can change independently of the Skytrain work. The live airport source should beat a saved social graphic or an old itinerary note.
