Two established neighbourhood hawker centres are about to disappear from their usual daily routine for roughly three months. The National Environment Agency’s current repairs and redecoration schedule shows both closures beginning on Monday, 14 September 2026.
This is primarily a resident story. For people who rely on either centre for breakfast, lunch, dinner or market shopping, the useful point is not just that a cleaning day is coming: these are long R&R closures lasting until December. Visitors staying nearby should also avoid building a food stop around either centre during the closure period.
01 · Which hawker centres are closing?
The first is the market and hawker centre at Blk 726 Clementi West Street 2. NEA lists its R&R closure from 14 September through 27 December 2026.
The second is Blk 22 Lorong 7 Toa Payoh. Its listed closure runs from 14 September through 13 December 2026.
Both start on the same Monday, but Clementi West remains closed two weeks longer.
02 · What does R&R mean?
NEA separates routine spring-cleaning closures from longer Repairs and Redecoration/Renovation (R&R) work. The agency says these works are part of keeping MSE-owned hawker centres clean and maintained.
For customers, the distinction matters because this is not a one- or two-day closure. Treat the listed centre as unavailable for the full R&R period unless NEA or the centre publishes a newer reopening notice.
03 · What residents should plan for
If either centre is part of your normal routine, plan an alternative before Monday rather than discovering the shutters at meal time. That is especially relevant for older residents, families buying market produce, workers who rely on a familiar lunch stop and anyone collecting food for another household.
We are deliberately not guessing which individual stalls will relocate or where each hawker will trade during the works. Stall arrangements can vary, and the NEA closure notice confirms the centre dates rather than a complete relocation list. Check signs at the centre, individual stall notices and the latest official updates if you are following a particular vendor.
04 · What visitors should know
Neither closure is a citywide food problem — Singapore still has an enormous hawker network — but it can ruin a very specific neighbourhood food plan. If a saved map, old blog post or recommendation sends you to Blk 726 Clementi West Street 2 or Blk 22 Lorong 7 Toa Payoh between the listed dates, choose another centre before making the trip.
For travellers, this is a good reminder to check current operating status when a food stop is the main reason for heading into a residential neighbourhood.
05 · Another R&R closure follows in October
The same current NEA schedule also lists Blk 2 & 3 Changi Village Road for R&R from 1 October to 15 October 2026. That one is shorter, but it is worth noting for anyone planning a Changi Village food stop next month.
