Marking the end of Ramadan, Kampong Glam and Geylang Serai light up with bazaars in the weeks before — one of the more atmospheric times to visit that neighbourhood.
Deepavali (Oct/Nov)
Little India's Serangoon Road gets an elaborate light-up and a weeks-long bazaar — arguably the single best festival light display on the island.
Other dates worth knowing
The Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix (September) closes roads downtown and fills hotels — factor it in even if you're not attending. National Day (August 9) brings fireworks and an evening parade around Marina Bay.
